The University Mohamed Khider of Biskra (UMKB) is a dynamic academic institution in Algeria with strong expertise in soil science, agroecology, and oasis-based agroforestry systems. UMKB focuses on restoring traditional ecological practices, improving soil fertility in arid regions, and understanding barriers to agroforestry adoption. It collaborates closely with farmers, associations, and government bodies, contributing valuable local knowledge and field-based experience to AGROFORESTEAM.
Role in the Project
UMKB leads WP1 and focuses on oasis agroforestry systems and adaptation strategies. UMKB is actively involved in AGROFORESTEAM across all the WPs:
•WP1, UMKB leads by coordinating the documentation of traditional and innovative agroforestry practices, characterization of case studies, and analysis of adoption barriers.
UMKB also contributes to:
•WP2, by establishing a MAP in Biskra.
•WP3, by supporting soil and biodiversity monitoring.
•WP4, by providing data for economic and environmental assessments.
•WP5, by engaging stakeholders and disseminating results in Algeria
